Area709.com, A Final Farewell
After almost fifteen years, it is time to say good-bye to the main Area709.com website. I would like to personally thank everyone who followed the site for the past decade, especially the 4,000 strong mailing list – whether it was downloading the massive amount of mixes from Area709 DJs, reading blogs or getting the latest event info. Your support is what has kept the site going this long – it’s been amazing to say the least.
I’d also like to thank all the DJs that were on the Area709.com roster. Without your contributions, your amazing talents and commitment to the project, Area709 would have never got off the ground at all. The memories of the site, the events and our core group coming together (I’m looking at you Darvin, Jay and Rusty) to do something special, was, well, special.
Finally I’d like to thank my former business partner from a long time ago, and still good friend, Steve Thompson, who was the technical brains of the operation. Before shutting down, the functionality of the site still worked flawlessly after so many years, which is a testament to the quality of work that Steve put into it.
In it’s prime – before Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Soundcloud and all the rest – Area709.com was a portal for some of the best in underground progressive, psytrance and experimental music. It’s roster included a tight-knit group of DJs from Canada and a few spots around the world. We were brought together through music, and Area709.com allowed us to grow together through music.
Over the past few years, the site has faded gracefully off into the distance, and now it is finally time to say farewell. It’s been a great ride, and is something I’m personally proud to have been a part of. Whether it’s a message from Australia, a comment from Italy, a booking request from Phoenix, or lots of heartfelt hugs at one of our events, I owe almost all of my connections and friends within the electronic music scene to Area709.
Deep in my heart, Area709 will always have a special place.
Thank you again for all of your support, and remember the music lives on through our individual pages and social media channels to be simply listed at http://www.area709.com
